Welcome to Ledge View Nature Center

Ledge View Nature Center is a county park best known for its cave system. It is located midway between Green Bay and Milwaukee, just south of Chilton. The park has grown tremendously since 1978 when it was dedicated, thanks to a unique partnership between Calumet County and the Friends of Ledge View Nature Center. Today, 105 acres of wooded ledges and open prairie include hiking trails, a 60-foot observation tower offering expansive countryside views, and a nature center staffed full-time by a county naturalist and assistants. Caves and quarry, long recognized as educational opportunities, are featured prominently in programs at Ledge View. In addition, visitors can enjoy an arboretum; interactive exhibits on bats, lake sturgeon, birds, and the Niagara Escarpment; and check out the flowers in rain, butterfly, and hummingbird gardens.

Families and individuals are invited to come on public tours of the caves and birding or flower hikes, go cross-country skiing, rent snowshoes for a winter walk, and participate in workshops.

School classes grade 3 and up can get down and dirty, experiencing guided exploration in natural caves April through November; they can discover ancient sea life with sedimentary geology and fossil-hunting; in March, the kids help tap sugar maple trees and collect sap, while learning about Wisconsin's sugaring history, then taste real maple syrup; kids of all ages can meet live animals nose to nose in animal programs; and, the naturalists take students trekking out into the white world on traditional wood-framed snowshoes December through February.

We invite you to come explore the Ledge! The park is open from sunrise to sunset.
